Kano singer, Naziru Ahmed pleads not guilty over release of uncensored songs

Kano’s famous singer, Naziru M. Ahmad AKA Sarkin Waka has pleaded not guilty and denied any wrongdoing over alleged release of two uncensored and unlicensed songs when he appeared before a Kano magistrate court sitting at Nomansland.

Naziru was dragged before the court by the state for releasing the two uncensored and unlicensed songs ” Gidan sarauta ” and ” Sai Hakuri” on September 12, 2019, an offence contrary to section 100(2) and punishable under section 112 of the Kano state censorship board Law 2001.

At the commencement of the sitting, the prosecuting counsel Wada A. Wada told the court that it is a case of Criminal Direct complaint and by the powers delegated to him by the attorney general and commissioner for justice seek to prosecute as such.

According to him, the matter was transferred from two former magistrates courts, as such, seeks to apply for commencement of hearing and retrieval of former exhibits tendered at the last two courts to enable him use them during this prosecution.

On his part, the defence lawyer, Tajuddeen Abdullahi did not object the application rather seek for the sustenance of bail and it’s conditions presently granted by the former courts that are being enjoyed by his client and asked for same evidence to enable his defend his client.

In his ruling, the presiding magistrate, Aminu Gabari granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2m and sureties to include his biological father or his relation and either a ward/village head in his area of or any Hisbah commander in the 44 LGAs of the state.

He then adjourned the matter to December 1st for continuation of hearing of the case.

Daily Trust reports that it is not yet certain if the defendant has fulfilled all the bail condition when writing this reports because he was still in the court premises trying to do that till 3pm.

Naziru has been at logger heads with the present All Progressive Congress led state government since pitching tent with the former deposed emir Muhammad Sanusi II and his close also with Kwankwasiya movement of former governor of Kano state, Sen Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. ‎

The two songs our reporter gathered are said to be derogatory to the ‎administration which necessitated his arraignment.
