Court remands man over rape of stepdaughter

An Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of one Jayeoba Oluwafemi (51) at the Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti, for allegedly raping his 14- year-old stepdaughter.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leramo,  the offence was committed on or about 04/10/2020 within Ado Ekiti magisterial district under Section 2(2) of the Ekiti State Gender-Based Violence Prohibited Law,2019.

The Chief Magistrate, Abdulhamid Lawal, said the accused person’s second wife’s statement indicated that he is not a responsible man, and this had led to his suspension at his workplace.

“It is in the interest of social justice to order the remand of the accused person and I hereby so order,” he added.

The case is adjourned to December 2, 2020, for mention, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.
