Political ruling class must wake up

The recent EndSARS protest in various parts of Nigeria is an indication that the Nigerian youths who are called lazy are no more lazy; it’s a clear cut statement from this populace that they have woken up to the fact that the Nigerian political ruling class has failed them and there’s a need for a swift and prompt redress of the abnormalities in the Nigerian realities.

It is good to finally see the youths wake up from their slumber as the Nigerian political ruling class have done so little to advance their course. We, however, condemn the activities of a few among them who hijacked the peaceful protest to cause wanton destruction of properties in many parts of the nation.

The activities of these few unscrupulous elements is a testament of the failure of the political ruling class to see to their welfare. The few that hijacked the process are products of bad governance in Nigeria. The Yoruba will always say that failure to train your child, will see to it that the child sells off your prized assets.

It is quite sad seeing the various reports of palliatives been looted in various warehouses across the country. These palliatives were meant to be given out free to the masses to cushion the ravaging effects of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

There is need to amend the 1999 Constitution in Nigeria, as the recent happenings in the nation have laid more emphasis on the need to put in proactive measures to secure the future of the nation as a sovereign united entity.

The political ruling class must go back to the drawing board to fix the various ills within the Nigerian system.  This is a time when people must come together and ensure that the obnoxious 1999 Constitution which has been giving us various problems is fixed. This is a good avenue for us to realise that this country may not be able to continue like this unless it’s restructured.

It is unfortunate to see our current political ruling class come to power using restructuring to campaign only for them to turn a blind eye to it when they get the mandate.
