Rice farmers in Plateau State have resorted to spraying water on their farms using tanker trucks to make up for the short rainy season experienced in the state which could lead to poor harvest.
Rainfall has stopped in the state for over three weeks now although many crops, especially rice, are not yet ripe for harvest.

Our correspondent reports that the current situation has sent fears into many rice farmers, particularly in the Southern zone of the state.
Salihu Danjos, one of the rice farmers from Yelwa town, in Shendam Local Government Area, told our correspondent that he could lose millions of naira he invested in his rice farm as a result of the drought being experienced.
“This is why I considered hiring water tankers to spray water in the farm to ensure that the crops gets enough water.”
Another farmer, Yusuf Mijinyawa, who lamented the situation, said “We are very worried by the present situation. This year, we have witnessed a very short rainy season which will have a lot of impact on what we are cultivating.”
The farmers therefore urge the state government to provide them with the necessary support to enable them to complete the processes in their agribusiness.
