Dr Adamu Alhassan Umar has been elected as the new president of the Nigeria Cancer Society (NCS) at its 46th annual general meeting held in Abuja.
Founded in October 1968, NCS was established by notable professionals and cancer advocates in Nigeria to facilitate the prevention, management, treatment and control of cancer among Nigerians through awareness, advocacy, education, training, research, community outreach and services.

The society also ensures a healthy nation free of premature deaths and suffering from cancer.
Dr Umar, 45, is a public health physician and the youngest to emerge as president of the society since its inception.
He said, “I took over the mantle of leadership from the immediate past president. Prof Sani Abubakar Malami, whose tenure expired on Wednesday following the election of new officers.”
He was the state coordinator of the national blood transfusion service Yobe State centre between 2009 and 2019 and vice president of the society during the immediate past national executive council.
