You have 3 days to return looted items, Police warn

The Plateau State Police Commissioner, Edward Chuka Ebuka, on Monday, says looters of food items and other properties belonging to the government and private individuals in the state have a three-day ultimatum to return them.

The commissioner said those who have carted away whatever item should surrender them to the nearest Local Government Areas in the state.

He said, “The Government of Plateau State is giving these looters the grace to return IMMEDIATELY every looted item to the nearest Local Government Office not later than Wednesday 28/10/2020. Anyone found in possession of any looted item after this date will be arrested and brought to book.”

While condemning all forms of looting and vandalisation in the state, the commissioner also alleged that the action of the looters was aimed at truncating the tireless efforts of the police and other security agencies on the Plateau.

He however reminded the residents of Jos North and South that the reinstated 24-hour curfew imposed on Saturday was still in place, cautioning people about the disobedience of the order.

The imposition of the curfew followed the breakdown of some warehouses in Jos and Bukuru where food items were carted away by residents of the area.

Daily Trust reported on Sunday how hundreds of people broke into the warehouse in the Plateau Agricultural Development Programme(PADP), located at Dogon Dutse of Jos North LGA and carted away bogs of fertilizer, chemicals, generators among other farming tools.

The Special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), had on Sunday, after the breaking of the warehouse and other public places, arrested 24 persons in connection to looting in the state.
