We’re not safe in s/west, Fulani petition Oyo gov, CP

Some Fulani groups in Oyo State yesterday appealed for assistance of Governor Seyi Makinde and the state’s Commissioner of Police, Nwachukwu Nwonwu, over alleged incessant killings of their members and their cows.

The appeal was contained in a statement jointly signed by the national chairman of the Jamu Nati Fulbe Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Saliu Kadri and Seriki Fulani of Oyo State, Ibrahim Saliu.

“In the past three months over 10 of our members and many cows worth millions of naira have been killed in different parts of the state.

“We hereby use this opportunity to inform the governor, Commissioner of Police and the general public of frequent and unprovoked killings of our members and cows across the state,” they said.

The group said that the incidents occurred in Saki, Ijio, Ogbomoso, Iresaadu, Iganna, Ado-Awaye and Igboora.

They accused farmers of putting poisonous substances on the grazing routes and rivers thereby causing the death of the cows as well as their members who drank from the rivers.

According to the statement, “this is particularly necessary at this stage as there is a limit to human patience.

“We are as an association have always been holding meetings to educate our members on the need to be law abiding.”

The group said that they might not be able to restrain their members if the unprovoked killings continues unabated.

“We hereby call on the government and progressive stakeholders in the state to come to our aid to prevent further killing of our members who are law abiding citizens,” they said.
