NCC gets new office, builds digital park in Kano

The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has completed the construction of its new office in Kano and commenced construction of a digital park in the state.

Its Executive Vice Chairman, Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the yet to be commissioned NCC office on Saturday in Kano.

Danbatta, who was on a special assignment to Kano, said the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, allocated the land for the new NCC office and has also allocated another land for construction of the digital park and work was in progress.

He said the digital park, when commissioned, will provide opportunities for the youth to enhance their digital skills and become self-reliant.

“The digital park initially is to serve the entire North West region, but plan is underway to deploy digital park in every state.

“But for now, this will serve for the North West and another is under construction in Lagos, while in the 2021 budget two more are included for Gombe and Oyo respectively,” he said.

Danbatta further explained that digital parks will be made accessible to all Nigerians irrespective of where they come from, adding that the youth would be employed for training that would give them opportunities to develop mobile apps and other digital innovations.

On the issue of pre-registered SIM cards, Danbatta cautioned the general public to desist from buying them, saying there is a penalty for those found guilty.

“Anybody found selling pre-registered SIM cards will be prosecuted and the penalty is N200,000 per SIM card,” he warned.
