Buhari’s speech on #ENDSARS splits Nigerians

For one, it had no mention of the Lekki tollgate incident

The long-awaited speech of President Muhammad Buhari continues to generate reactions with diverse tunes about the body language of the Presidency over the ongoing carnage accompanying the protest against police brutality.

For one, it had no mention of the Lekki tollgate incident, even though it generally noted killings and attacks.

While some Nigerians consider the address of the president as genuine expression of concern about the tragedy that befall the nation, some however look at it as a complete display of insensitivity to the plight of the victims of the attack.

Some said the speech was lifeless as it fell short to addressing the real issues and demands of the protesters.

Reno Omokri @renoomokri in a post cited a Villa source as saying: “Even vice President @ProfOsinbajo is ashamed of General @MBuhari’s speech. You will notice that 4 hours after the speech, he still has not shared it on Twitter. This is the first time ever. Normally, he would support Buhari by tweeting and retweeting.”

For Senator Dino Melaye. (SDM) @dino_melaye, “The speech of the president made me speechless. Mennnnnn I tire oooo. Recommending panadol for cancer is suicidal. SDM”

Over 1,200 people have within less than an hour commented since the text of the address was shared on the official Facebook account of the president among whom are:

Mailafiya Abashiya who said, “Of course, but under your administration. Nigeria takes a lead among the poorest countries in the entire world, this has further promoted you to a position of an irresponsible president, no condolences message to the family of Lekki’s carnage by your men, our God is watching at the height of your atrocities.”

Hamza Rafin Dadi said, “You have to wake up from the sleep Mr President, people in the northern part of Nigeria played a good role during election, like Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto, and Zamfara but instead of pay[ing] them with a good leadership, [abandoned] them in a difficult situation. Gunmen kill them, kidnap them, there is insecurit, rape and banditry killing innocent people day and night. We need to end insecurity in the northern part of Nigeria.”

Terry Abdul-Kareem Zekeri: “May God Bless You And Destroy Everyone Causing Unrest In This Country.”

Isah M Adam: “Well said. God bless and protect you Mr. President.
Despite grudge by grudgers you’re algorithmically progressing, wish you all the best here and here after.”

Ibrahim Wase: “You have done well enough Sir for Nigeria and grateful Nigerians. Mr President of federal Republic of Nigeria, we say thank you and may Allah in His infinite mercy continue to be your guide and protector now and then. Amin”
