A former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), has called on the youths in the country to halt the EndSARS protest and give a chance for dialogue.
Abdulsalami said this while addressing newsmen in Minna over the EndSARS protest going on in the country.
- #ENDSARS: Ex-govs demand probe of Lekki protesters attack
- #EndSars: Using force to suppress peaceful protest unacceptable, says Plan
He explained that the unfortunate incident was causing serious concern to many Nigerians and if care is not taken it might take the country backward than imagined.
The former head of state also appealed to youths, who have strongly and clearly made their points known, to withdraw from the streets and prepare for dialogue.
He, however, appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to continue addressing the grievances expressed by the youths and layout programmes that meet and addressed the objective of the protest.
He also lamented the hijacking of the protest by criminals resulting in violence and destruction of government critical infrastructure and private properties as well as the criminal release of prisoners.
Abdulsalami added that this had forced the government to send security agencies to restore law and order which unfortunately further led to the loss of more innocent lives.
