Two ‘killed’ in Ondo as hoodlums attack police station, prisons

Two people were feared killed in Yaba, Ondo town on Thursday during the #EndSARS protest while governor Akeredolu’s campaign office was set ablaze in Akure.

Also, a police station was set ablaze in Okitipupa and Okitipupa Correctional Centre was attacked where over fifty inmates were said to have escaped.

The lawmaker representing Ondo West constituency in the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon Tomide Akinribido, said he learnt from the Police that one of those killed in Ondo was attempting to break into GT Bank when he was shot and a gun was recovered from him.

The lawmaker also said another young man was shot in front of Crunchies fast food, Ondo identified as Ogunsakin Akinyemi.

While commiserating with the dead and all those injured, the lawmaker appealed to the youths to leave the streets now and go home.

“The hitherto peaceful #EndSARS protests has clearly been infiltrated by criminal elements hence we need to restore peace and orderliness first,” he said.

In Akure, Governor Akeredolu’s campaign office along Ilesa- road was also set on fire by hoodlums.

In Okitipupa, over fifty inmates at the Nigerian Correctional Service’s Custodial Centre were said to have been set free when hoodlums took over the town, a police station was also said to have been razed.

The hoodlums were also said to have attacked a local government secretariat and PHCH Office in the town.

The INEC Office in Okitipupa was also said to have been attacked and looted.

It was gathered that the youths had gathered in the morning to continue their protest but security operatives moved in to enforce the curfew order.

This was said to have angered the protesters in Okitipupa who later regrouped and attack the police station before moving to the prison.
