Residents in Jos North and Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State have largely stayed indoors after Governor Simon Bako Lalong imposed a 24-hour curfew in both council areas.
Businesses in the state capital were closed down and roads deserted.
Security personnel have been deployed to ensure compliance with the curfew.
The curfew follows violence that erupted when two sets of youths disagreed over blockading Ahmadu Bello Way by EndSARS protesters to register their complaints against police brutality in the country.
Three people were on Tuesday confirmed dead by the governor.
Many structures and and cars were destroyed.
Governor had soon after the break of violence, announced the imposition of the curfew.
“Based on this scenario, I summoned an emergency Security Council Meeting to evaluate the situation and take decisive actions to stop the further escalation. Having received a briefing from security agencies and after a careful assessment of the situation, the Government is left with no choice but to impose a curfew to stop further loss of lives and properties,” he said.
“Accordingly, I have directed the imposition of a 24-hour curfew in Jos South and Jos North Local Government Areas with effect from 8:00 pm today Tuesday, October 20, 2020, till further notice. By this directive, all forms of protests are hereby banned in the two Local Governments Areas of Jos North and Jos South.”
