We will go after foreigners who refuse to be registered – NIS

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has said it would go after migrants who refuse to get themselves registered in its ongoing electronic re-registration exercise.

It vowed to evoke the immigration laws on any foreign national arrested for refusing to be captured at the end of the exercise.

President Mohammadu Buhari had, in July 2019, declared six months amnesty to migrants who had stayed in Nigeria beyond 90 days without resident permit.

The six months grace had been extended indefinitely.

The Comptroller in charge of the Lagos State Command of the Service, Ahmed Aliyu, while reiterating the stance of the service on the e-registration exercise disclosed that until September 2020, the command had successfully registered over 22,000 migrants in the state.
