A former speaker of Jigawa State House of Assembly, Iliyasu Sa’idu Dundubus, has died.
He died, Wednesday, following a protracted illness.
The state Assembly’s spokesman, Babangida Hadejia, who confirmed the death of the former lawmaker, said he died on Wednesday while receiving treatment at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika, Zaria, Kaduna State.
Dundubus served 2000-2003 as the speaker during the first tenure of Senator Ibrahim Saminu Turaki as the governor of the state.
Hadejia noted that the remains of the deceased were being expected in the state for burial as at the time of writing this report.
The deceased, who hailed from Dundubus community in Dutse Local Government Area, would be remembered for issuing a 24-hour ultimatum to former Governor Turaki to return to the state or risk impeachment following the latter’s prolonged absence from the state.
The governor had to return to the state before the 24 hours ultimatum.
The death of Dundubus is coming barely six months after the death of another former speaker of the State Assembly, Hon. Adamu Sarawa, who died in April 2020 after a brief illness in Kano.
Sarawa succeeded Dundubus as the speaker of the assembly in 2003.
