ASUU, Senate leadership in closed-door meeting over IPPIS

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is meeting with the leadership of the Senate behind closed doors over the lingering crisis between the federal government and the union on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

President Muhammadu Buhari had, during budget presentation last Thursday, said only Federal staff that have been captured on the IPPIS platform will receive salaries.

ASUU President, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, who led other executive members of the union to the Senate, said the meeting was to seek the support of the Red Chamber on its invention, which will serve as alternative to IPPIS.

He said the union had a meeting with the federal government on the alternative to IPPIS it developed but for five years now, there was no response from the government.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan, in his brief remarks before newsmen were asked to leave, decried the inability of the federal government to implement the several agreements it signed with the union.

“Why do you sign agreement you know you can’t implement?” Lawan queried.
