WTO: Ngozi visits Buhari at Aso Rock

Former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, is at the State House, Abuja, holding a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Okonjo-Iweala is in the Presidential Villa with the Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Amb. Zubair Dada; the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Niyi Adebayo, and his Minister of State, Hajiya Maryam Katagum.

The former minister, who is running to become the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), is one of the final two candidates for the election.

President Buhari has voiced his support for her candidacy.

Last Thursday, the Federal Government appealed to members of the World Trade Organisation to endorse Nigeria’s nomination, Dr Okonjo-Iweala in her aspiration for the position of Director-General of the global body.

Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Katagum, who is also the Chairperson of the Okonjo-Iweala Campaign Team, described her as “the best choice for the job” in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja.

She hailed the Economic Community of West African States and the European Union for backing the Nigerian candidate.
