Warring motorcycle riders in Ikorodu reach truce to end fracas

Factional members of commercial motorcycle operators who are from two major tribes-Yoruba and Hausa- operating at Igbo-Olomu, in Ikorodu area of Lagos State on Saturday reached an agreement to end the age-long rivalry between the two ethnic groups in the area.

There had been rivalry between the riders from the two tribes in the area over an alleged collection of union dues from members.

Factional members of commercial motorcycle operators in Igbo-Olomu, had engaged themselves in a bloody clash on Thursday leading to the death of two persons and many injured.

Worried by the dimension which the crisis assumed at the weekend, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, met with the groups in Igbo Olomu, Ikorodu West Local Council Development Authority Area of Lagos State to broker peace.

At the meeting, the Commissioner of Police appealed to warring groupsto tolerate one another and embrace peace in order to promote mutual co-existence in the areas.

The two groups condemned the ugly incident and agreed to reconcile and embrace peace after the meeting.

The Commisioner of police assured them of creating a police post after due consultation with the LCDA Chairman in the area.
