KEDCO to cut power losses by 25% this year

Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) said it is working to reduce its Aggregate Technical, Commercial, and Collections (ATC&C) losses by 25 percent this year.

A statement by the Head, Corporate Communications, Ibrahim Sani Shawai, on Wednesday, stated that the ATC&C losses have been at 49% but that the firm has set a target to cut it to 23.5% in 2020.

It said the company is yet to get over N11 billion revenue in its franchise area as a result of the attitude of some customers by giving part payment or not paying their bills.

For 2020, we projected to cut our ATC&C loss by 23.5% but as it stands now the ATC&C is 49%. However, we are working to ensure we meet our ATC&C target of 23.5% by December, 2020.”

To achieve this, KEDCO will focus on transformer metering, repairing transformers; aligning payment systems to feeders, and ensuring 100% bills distribution and collection.

The Managing Director and CEO, Dr Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, charged customers to continue to pay their bills on time while avoiding part payments.

Gwamna also appealed to them to support KEDCO by reporting suspected cases of sabotage to security personnel or any KEDCO offices.

Meanwhile it has trained 208 staff on modern leadership development. The training according to the company is to help them effectively handle contemporary leadership challenges in its franchise states.

“The training is aimed at impacting the right leadership content on staff that will equip them with the proper prerequisite skills to attend to the demanding challenges of leading teams since KEDCO prioritises teamwork for effective productivity,” said Shawai.
