Bauchi Emir makes case for university education

The Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, has asked the Conference of Alumni Association of Nigerian Universities (CAANU) to remain united and focus on taking university education forward.

The monarch gave the task during his investiture as Patron of CAANU by the National Executive and other members of the association at his palace in Bauchi.

“I can see the founding members of the association cut across all strata of Nigeria, therefore with the richly constituted membership, Nigerian universities cannot be said to lack the necessary advice and suggestions on the way forward.

“All that is required of you is to put heads together and share ideas, experiences and challenges encountered through the years in your alma mater,” he said.

The royal father urged them to remain united and focused in maintaining the set objectives of the association, saying, “I am not unmindful of your collective and individual contributions to your various alma mater in the areas of interventions in infrastructure and equipment towards teaching and learning, that is in addition to the mentorship you are displaying to the undergraduates to emulate.”

He also urged them to continue to encourage and support universities in the area of training and retraining of their staff to enable them to compete favourably with their counterparts worldwide.

Earlier in his remark, the National President of CAANU, Professor Ahmed Tijjani Mora, said the national executive and other members of CAANU during the 2020 third quarter delegates conference unanimously approved for the emir of Bauchi to be among the six patrons of the association.

Professor Ahmed explained that it was also a unanimous decision for the first investiture ceremony to take place at the emir’s palace. This is in addition to the selection of a royal father from each geopolitical zone of the country, which includes the Emir of Zazzau (Northwest), the Emir of Lafia (North Central), the Obi of Onitsha (Southeast), the Oba of Benin (South South) and the Ooni of Ife (Southwest).
