A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governorship candidate, Uche Nwosu, has commended President Muhamamadu Buhari for approving a special salary scale for teachers in the country.
President Buhari announced a special salary scale for Nigerian teachers as well as increased years of service from 35 to 40 and retirement age from 60 to 65 years to mark the World Teacher’s Day.
Nwosu described the gesture as a welcome development that will give fillip to the morale of teachers and thereby impacting their performance in the Education sector.
Further describing teachers as critical stakeholders in nation building, Nwosu, stated that the approval of a special renumeration for the teachers by the President confirms the departure of the age-long aphorism that “a teacher’s reward is in heaven”.
He said, “I want to commend President Muhamamadu Buhari for not just verbally appreciating our teachers but going ahead to demonstrate the appreciation by approving special salary regime for them and also extending the duration of their service.
“I am not in doubt that this will spur the teachers as major stakeholders in nation building to put in their best. It will certainly motivate the teachers and this will have very great implications for our education sector. There is nothing that can be better than a motivated workforce in nation building.”
