Lafia varsity staff found dead days after ‘disappearance’

The decomposing body of a staff of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) in Nasarawa State, Mrs. Angelina Tyem, has been found in her private apartment in Lafia four days after she reportedly disappeared.

The deceased, until her death, was a senior administrative officer of the university and the Women Leader of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), FULafia chapter.

She also contested for the Akwanga North state House of Assembly election in 2019 on the platform of NNPP.

Her corpse was found by neighbours in her apartment situated in Sabon Pegi area of Lafia on Sunday, which attracted many onlookers.

Sources said the deceased was murdered by hired assassins.

It was gathered that few weeks ago, that late Tyem survived an accident along Akwanga-Jos road while assailants invaded her apartment in Lafia and carted away all her belongings.

A resident, who preferred anonymity, said they did not see her for four days, before they found her dead body which was reportedly mutilated.

Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) Federal University of Lafia chapter, Mr. Monday Seriki, said he visited the scene and found that the deceased was murdered and that her car and phones were missing.

He said her neighbours perceived bad odour coming from her house and while searching, they found her kitchen door from the backyard was left open.

“Her body was conveyed by the university ambulance to Sandaji mortuary in Lafia,” he said.

Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the incident.
