Chairman, Senate Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed (Binani), has given 36 industrial sewing machines and 34 car spraying machines to 76 youths in Adamawa Central Senatorial District.
The senator also provided N3.5m as a startup capital for the youths at N50, 000 each.
The beneficiaries were empowered after a four-day skills acquisition and entrepreneurship training in Yola.
A statement by the media office of the senator said: “Determined to improve the lot of youths in her district, Senator Binani has trained 70 youths in line with her 2020 constituency intervention project plans.
“She said she initiated the skills and entrepreneurship training to reduce youth unemployment in the district.
The lawmaker, represented by Hajiya Aishatu Abdulrahman Abba Jimeta, Binani said: “I decided to organize another set of empowerment programme because it helps combat the current high level of unemployment and poverty in the society.
“This is my own modest way of getting our youths from the streets. I am ready to do everything within my capacity to ensure that all the youths in Adamawa Central District are meaningfully engaged.
“If we live for our youths and if we invest in our youths, we are doing so to guarantee our tomorrow. No sacrifice is too much to put our youths on the right path.”
Chairman, All Progressives Congress in the state, Ibrahim Bilal, was quoted thus: “Such programmes touch the lives of the people positively, as they make them to become self-reliant in the face of poverty and unemployment.”
He charged other politicians to emulate Binani “as she is always setting the bar high with her foresight in initiating development programmes”.
