A woman was said to have died when a house in Malamawa Village of Wudilawa Ward in Gaya Local Government Area collapsed on a family of five as a result of a heavy downpour that destroyed over 100 houses and over 300 farmlands.
Speaking during a relief materials distribution to the victims of the flooding by the Member representing Gaya and Albasu Federal Constituency, Abdullahi Mahmud Gaya, the Ward Head of Wudilawa, Malam Bello Idris, said the village had been experiencing flooding over the years.
He, therefore, called on the authorities to consider relocating the village to a safer location in order to save lives and property.
He said, “Every year the people of Malamawa are subjected to floods, and this year a house collapsed on a family of five, killing one.
“We are appealing to authorities concerned to kindly consider relocating the village to a safer location.”
Earlier in his address, the lawmaker condoled with the victims and assured them that government would provide relief to cushion the effect of their losses.
The relief materials distributed included 200 bags of cement, 500 pieces of wood, 20 bundles of roofing sheets, 30 bags of rice, among others.
