A 28-year-old cobbler, Zubairu Abubakar, on Monday appeared in a Grade I Area Court in Abuja for allegedly receiving two stolen plasma TV sets for N30,000.

The prosecution counsel, Francis Gabriel, told the court that on Sept. 18, the complainant, Mrs Maryam Bello of Aco Estate Abuja, reported the matter at Iddo Police Station.

Gabriel told the court that the defendant bought the TV sets for N30,000 from Abdulrahaman Isah, a security guard, who was employed to secure and guard the complainant’s school.

He alleged that the defendant bought the TV sets knowing full well that they were stolen.

The offence, he said, contravened Section 319A of the penal code.

The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

He ordered that the surety must have reasonable means of livelihood and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case until Oct. 7 for hearing. (NAN)
