Self care: 10 ways to care for your body and mind

We all need to take a break from the continuous cycle of work, sleep, and more work.

If you don’t unplug from this cycle, your body will scream in protest and demand you pay attention to its needs.

The human body is not a machine and as such it deserves some rest.

Create time to take care of yourself after all, you can only perform better when you are healthy.

Here are 10 ways you can care for yourself everyday.

Exercise your body for a happy mind

A little exercise every day goes a long way to reducing stress. A brisk walk in the morning will energize and motivate you for the day ahead.

Save time at night by going to bed early, set your alarm a little earlier than usual and hit the pavement.

Meditate

A 10- or 15-minute meditation each morning will help balance your mind for the busy day ahead.

Take a few moments to relax before you begin preparing for the day. Think about all the things you are grateful for and give yourself some positive encouragement.

Keep a journal/diary

Writing is a therapeutic activity. There’s always something to be grateful for; write your thoughts, worries, gratitude, or whatever else comes to mind.

Keep the journal near your bed and make a habit of writing a few paragraphs or even sentences each night before you go to sleep or each morning before going out.

Read

We all need an escape from the pressing concerns of reality.

Pick up a book or magazine, get off your computer and read.
Reading is a relaxing activity that helps us escape from the pressures of our lives.

Schedule a ‘Me’ time

When we fill out our calendars for the day, we usually don’t schedule in time for ourselves.

While remembering important conference calls, meetings, and deadlines, don’t forget you!

Take a break from social media

Unplug from social media. People tend to grab their phone first thing when waking up.

Then work begins. Checking emails/chats leads to replying to email and before you know it, it’s time to get up and get ready for work.

Leave social media alone, create time for yourself and get set to hit the day!

Make time for breakfast, you can always reply that mail when you get to work.

Call an old friend

Reconnect with someone you haven’t had time to talk to in a while. Busy lives get in the way of friendship.

Career, family, responsibility makes us forget those who are dear to us. Friends become distant memories.

Get enough sleep

You can’t cheat nature and there are no two ways about that!

When you’re a busy working professional life is hectic.
We don’t give our bodies as much rest as they need to fully function.

Sleep is not only good for the body, but it is also good for the mind. A well-rested body and mind can accomplish great things.

Make your weekend about you, not work

Many people take their work home with them and never really get a day off.

Take time on the weekend to do things you enjoy. Spend more time with your loved ones, visit fun places, take a mini vacation.

Participate in activities you enjoy doing.

Don’t forget these; “You’re amazing”

Remind yourself that you are amazing. Don’t let deadlines and a demanding job get you down. Remind yourself of all the things you have accomplished and don’t get caught up in problems or failures.
