NLC/TUC strike: Aviation workers to withdraw services

Aviation unions have directed their members to withdraw services across all airports in the country with effect from midnight of Monday, September 28 in compliance with the strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) over the hike in pump price of petroleum and electricity tariff.

The four aviation unions which have directed their members to join the strike are the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE); Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN).

National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) and the Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP).

The directive was contained in a joint statement signed by the General Secretary of NUATE, Comrade Ocheme Aba, Deputy General Secretary, ATSSSAN, Comrade Frances Akinjole, Secretary-General, ANAP, Comrade AbdulRazaq Saidu and Deputy General Secretary, NAAPE, Comrade Umoh Ofonime, notifying all aviation workers of the strike.

“Our unions are in full support of the strike action. As such, all workers in the Aviation sector are hereby directed to withdraw their services at all aerodromes nationwide as from 00 hrs of 28th September 2020 until otherwise communicated by the NLC/TUC or our unions. All workers shall comply. The general public particularly airport users, aviation concerns and agencies are notified accordingly”, the statement said.
