The Sokoto State Police Command have arrested and detained Sergeant Bello Garba who shot and killed a worshipper and injured three others at the Sultan Muhammad Bello Mosque in the state.
Daily Trust reported that the officer fired shots to disperse suspected area boys who were said to be fighting over money given to them by Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal who along with the Sultan also said their Juma’at prayer at the mosque.
A statement signed by the spokesman of the command, ASP Muhammad Sadiq, said the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Sani Kaoje has charged state criminal investigation department to speed up investigation and come up with objective findings.
The Commissioner however, condemned in its entirety the unwarranted, uncivil and unprofessional conduct of the officer who was on special duty in the state.
Kaoje had ordered for immediate detention and commencement of trial of the erring office.
He cautioned officers and men of the command to deploy all professional acumen at their disposal including psychological capacity in order to enhance the safety of the people of the state.
