President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to consider an appeal made by the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom on dredging of critical points in the channel of River Benue.
The President of Daura Emirate Development Association (DEDA) and National President of National Association of Katsina and Daura indigenes, Alh. Aliyu Daura, made the appeal in a statement obtained by Daily Trust.
According to Daura, the call was necessary as the contract was awarded since 2014 at the tune of about N25.9b but for unknown reason the project was yet to commence.
“The project, when completed, will help in boosting agricultural activities and ease movement of shipping lines to the northern parts of Nigeria,” he said.
He further stated that their findings have shown that when the project is completed, it will also help in ensuring all year navigation along the River Benue between Lokoja and Makurdi by means of dredging of critical parts in the channel.
He then appealed to Mr. President and Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, to revisit the issue and approve for the immediate commencement of the projects.
