Defend N430m claim against Akeredolu’s Son, Ondo Dep Gov. Told

The South-West Youth Leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Deputy Governor of Ondo State and Governorship Candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, Mr Agboola Ajayi to strip himself of official immunity and prepare to defend himself in court.

This followed the alleged claim by Mr Agboola that a son to the incumbent Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Babajide Akeredolu made N430m in consultancy fees on the discovery of a N4.3billion naira belonging to the state in a secret account.

The South West Youth Leader of the APC, Mr. Kolade Lawal, described the claim as spurious and irresponsible.

“It is least expected of a man holding a position of responsibility,” he said, stressing that the information is untrue, and deliberately misleading.

Kolade in a statement said political season should not be taken for a time to feed the public with false information.

He called on Mr. Agboola Ajayi to prepare to present evidence to his claims in the court.

He stated that Agboola should not hide behind any immunity as the deputy governor, adding that he should be confident and honourable to defend his words in court.

He said: “The South West Youth Leadership had written a letter to Ondo State House of Assembly to inquire if there was any consultant involved in the process of the discovery of the N4.3 billion, and they were reliably informed that no consultant was involved.

“Furthermore, the victim of the media assault, Mr Babajide Akeredolu is a member of the APC, and a committed constituent. To this extent, the APC Southwest youth leadership is prepared do everything humanly possible to protect him, in his personal capacity as a member of the party.”

Babajide on Tuesday threatened to sue the deputy governor, for mentioning his name in the alleged N4.3bn kept in a secret account by the previous administration.

Babajide on his twitter handle said, “My attention has been drawn to the spurious allegations made against me by Hon. Agboola Ajayi, the governorship candidate of the Zenith Labour Party during his campaign rally on the 19th of September, 2020 at Ore in Odigbo local government area.”

“I have instructed my lawyers to institute legal action against Hon. Agboola Ajayi to claim full damages for the harm the false and malicious statement he made has done to my reputation. He must prove this allegation in the court of law.”
