Police arraign man for abducting girl for sex

A 21-year old man, Mohammed Yakubu, on Monday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly abducting a 17-year-old girl with intent to have carnal knowledge of her.

The defendant whose address is unknown, is standing trial on a charge of abduction.

The prosecutor, Insp. Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between Sept. 7 and Sept. 8 at Zone 9, Olorunda area of Ado-Ekiti.

Akinwale alleged that the defendant abducted a 17-year-old girl with intent to have carnal knowledge of her.

He said the offence contravened Section 225 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor asked the court for adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

The defendant pleaded not guilty.

His counsel, Mr Abiola Gboyega, urged the court to grant him bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adefumike Anoma, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case till Oct. 30 for hearing. (NAN)
