Athletes from Ogun and Oyo States on Sunday won the maiden edition of the Cycling Festival which had over 100 cyclists in attendance in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The tournament was powered by FT Cycle Care registered cyclists from different South-west states.
The cyclists took off from Isale-Igbein bridge and raced through Sapon, Itoku, Totoro, Oke-Sokori, Ibara Enroute Omida market to the finishing point at Isale-Igbehin.
At the end, Bassey Nkon from Ogun state and Durogbade Adejoke from Oyo state emerged winners of the competition.
Bassey emerged with a record time, One hour, thirty-five minutes while the first runners up, Sakariyau Faruq from Ogun finished in One hour, thirty-six minutes as the second runners up, Ashiribo Olalekan ended in one hour, thirty-seven minutes.
In the women’s Category, Adejoke finished in One hour, thirty-seven minutes, the first runners up, Tawakalitu Yekini from Oyo crossed the finishing point after one hour, thirty-Eight minutes, and the Second runner up, Oyebola Oluwabunmi ended in One hour, thirty-nine minutes.
Speaking on their victories, Nkon and Adejoke said that the competition had prepared them for the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Edo.
According to Bassey, “It was very amazing, I thank God. I have worked towards this. We are actually preparing for the National Sports Festival and African tournament coming up next year.”
Adejoke also said “Glory to God for giving me the opportunity to win today because it’s not an easy task, we have been preparing hard for the National Sports Festival. We promise southwest that we will be coming home with medals because we are one.”
The Vice-Chairman, Ogun State Cycling Association, and organizer of the event, Mr. Thomas Femi expressed delight with the success of the event and the large turnout.”
