We won’t confront military over Gana’s death — Ortom

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, on Friday, said that his administration would rather continue to engage the military in dialogue over killing of Terwase Akwasa (Gana) instead of being confrontational.

Gana was killed by soldiers on Tuesday.

The governor, at a press conference in Makurdi after many hours of an expanded meeting with security agencies and stakeholders from the Sankera area of the state, posited that the option of dialoguing with the military was reached in order to move forward.

He noted that the meeting resolved not to join issues with security agencies, stressing that stakeholders agreed to move ahead since they could no longer bring the dead back to life.

“We have resolved not to join issues with security agencies.

“We have agreed to leave what has happened as God’s doing.

“We will move forward because we cannot return the dead,” he said.

Ortom, while stressing that the Sankera people are pained over the circumstances of Gana’s death, said the state government would continue to interface with security agencies to ensure such incident never occurs again.

“We will continue to dialogue with security agencies, especially the military. We’re not going to be confrontational.

“We will continue to interface with the military and other security agencies to ensure this kind of incident doesn’t occur ever again,” the governor maintained.
