FCT resident doctors suspend strike, join national one

Resident doctors on strike in Abuja have called off their week-long industrial action, only to join a nationwide strike called by the national body of resident doctors.

The National Association of Resident Doctors called an indefinite strike last Tuesday to force the government to pay Covid-19 hazard allowance and other incentives.

Resident doctors in Abuja had been on strike before then to protest their treatment and management by the FCT authorities.

On Monday, they met in a virtual meeting and resolved to end their strike in the FCT.

It came after the “payment of the COVID-19 hazard allowance and implementation of variation for some of her members who were successful in the 2018 promotion exercise,” said the association’s president Roland Aigbovo.

On Tuesday, they joined the ongoing national strike of resident doctors.

NARD is pushing for funding of medical residency training for residents, group life insurance and death-in-service benefit for health workers.
