Girl, 7, allegedly slaughtered by unknown assailant in Jos

A seven-year-old girl, Juwairiya Auwal was on Saturday allegedly murdered inside Jos Museum, located in the heart of Jos North Local Government Area of the state.

This comes shortly after a similar incident occurred at Tudun Fera, a Jos community where one eight-year-old Faruk Abubakar, was slaughtered by an unidentified culprit while on an errand to buy livestock feed in the area.

Juwairiya’s mother, Hajiyeye Haruna, said the deceased and her elder sister, Fatima Auwal, went out to sell brooms on Saturday but met with a woman who took them to a hut inside Jos Museum also known as Old Zoo, where the younger one was murdered while the elder one escaped.

Fatima, 13, who escaped from the hut narrated: “We were resting around Tudun OP, in Rikkos community after making some sales, a woman approached us asking how much we sell a broom. We told her but she asked us to give her free but we didn’t agree. As she [the woman], opened her fingers towards our faces, we only saw ourselves inside a hut within Jos Museum.”

“As soon as we appeared in the hut, the woman brought out a knife and slaughtered my younger sister. Realising she was coming towards me, I ran out of the hut shouting and asking for help and then met a man who took me to A  Division where the incident was reported,” she added.

The mother of the victims told Daily Trust that the body of the deceased was recovered with police officers from A Division and handed over to them for the funeral.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Uba Gabriel said he was not signalled on the incident.

He said, “I need to go there to hear from the DPO. His number is not connecting.”
