Ogun resident doctors suspend strike to negotiate

Resident doctors at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, have suspended their ongoing industrial action for two weeks to allow negotiation with the Ogun state government.

Executives of the Association of Resident Doctors at the hospital said the state house speaker Olakunle Oluomo brokered peace between them and the government.

In a statement, they said a memorandum is expected to be produced within the two weeks of suspended strike at the instance of the speaker.

They said the association was concerned about the health of the public and, “It is in this light we have decided to toe the line of empathy and therefore render our service to the people,” they said.

“Since the government is willing to take up the responsibility expected of a considerate, sincere and truthful government without shirking, we have decided to reconsider our stand.

“We shall therefore suspend the ongoing industrial action for  two weeks to allow for negotiation and a content worthy MoU within this period as requested by the Speaker Ogun State House of Assembly during his intervention to resolve the issue.

Full clinical services are expected to resume on Monday.
