The Federal Government has taken over the Sokoto-Illela road which was rehabilitated at the cost of N2.6 billion.
The 7.7 kilometers road which leads to the main campus of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University was destroyed by the 2010 flood disaster in the state.

The contract was awarded in 2012 to Mother Cat Construction Company with a completion period of one year and continued to be reviewed until 2019 when it was finally put to test.
According to the leader of the assessment team sent from the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Engineer Goni Muhammad, the contractor complied with the contract standards and specifications.
“It was assessed immediately after its completion in 2019 before it was put to test and we are here for the final assessment before we take it over from the contractor,” he said.
According to him, the final assessment was the final stage of project completion, and all the observations and resting period were ensured.
He expressed appreciation with the Sokoto State government, university community, road transport unions and other road users for their support and cooperation which ensured successful conduct of the project.
He expressed optimism that the project would benefit Nigerians, adding that the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other relevant government stakeholders were involved in the assessment of the project.
The Vice Chancellor, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Professor Lawal Bilbis, thanked the federal government for the project which he said had laid their age-long nightmare to rest.
He, however, requested for more speed breakers along the road.
