Governor Godwin Obaseki of the PDP and his APC counterpart in the Edo Governorship election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu both entered an accord for a peaceful election in the state.
The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, had summoned the duo alongside other stakeholders to his palace where he challenged them to prevail on their foot-soldiers to shun violence.
Edo 2020: Oba of Benin urges Obaseki, Ize-lyamu to emulate ex-President Jonathan
Obaseki honoured as cattle dealers back governor’s reelection bid
He urged them to emulate former President Jonathan who in the 2015 election, before the final result was announced, called President Muhammadu Buhari and congratulated him, a development which, the monarch said, doused tension in the country.
It is good that Obaseki and Ize-Iyamu have publicly made the commitment to work for a peaceful election in the state.
I therefore urge the two gladiators to go beyond mere words to real actions that would promote peaceful election.
They should shun provocative utterances and other actions that would over heat the polity.
Let there be peace in Edo.
