A chieftain of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Babatunde Gbadamosi, has emerged the party’s candidate for the October 31 by-election for Lagos East senatorial district.
Gbadamosi garnered a total of votes to beat other three aspirants vying for the party’s ticket.
His closest rival, Saidat Fafowora polled 59 votes, followed by Olanrewaju Babatunde, who polled 21 votes while Abiodun Oyefusi, came last with seven votes.
Similarly, Ademola Alebiosu, emerged as the party’s flagbearer for Kosofe Constituency II for the State House of Assembly bye-election also scheduled to hold October ending.
In the Kosofe 2 exercise held at the party secretariat, Alebiodu polled 31 votes to defeat his only opponent, Segun Aroyewun.
The senatorial primary exercise, which produced Gbadamosi as the party’s candidate, commenced around 12: 18pm at the PDP local council secretariat at Pedro in Somolu area of the state, and was witnessed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) team led by Tunde Oyebode.
Announcing the result, secretary of the electoral committee, Awaj- Imombak Abiante, said a total of 638 delegates voted, while 14 void votes were recorded in the exercise.
The two seats became vacant following the death of Senator Bayo Osinowo, who died on June 15, 2020 and Tunde Braimoh who died on July 10.
Gbadamosi, who spoke after he was declared winner of the primary, thanked members of his party, his fellow aspirants, the national electoral Committee chairman and members of the Appeal Committee, declaring his victory as not just for him, but for the PDP and other aspirants who vied with him.
“I will represent the interest of people of my constituency and bring dividends due to them in terms of constituency project, legislation that impact positively on the people of Lagos and Nigeria,” he said.
