Police in Anambra has arrested a man for stabbing a 26-year-old woman and attempting to remove her breasts for alleged ritual purposes.
Ogbonna Nwankwo, 41, from Ihite town in Orumba south local government area, is being held on attempted murder charges after he stabbed his victim in the stomach in a motel room and began working to remove their breasts thinking she was dead.
He was attempting to cut off her right breast when she suddenly came alive and began screaming for help, attracting attention.
Police operatives attached to Umunze division visited the scene and rushed the woman to hospital.
They also arrested the man after he was “manhandled by angry mob and beaten to stupor,” said Anambra police spokesman SP Haruna Mohamed.
He has been taken to hospital for treatment under police guard.
A bloodstained knife recovered at the scene is in exhibit and the case has been moved on to the criminal investigation department.
