After Daily Trust story, Katsina government returns Jibia IDPs to their villages

Thousands of Internally Displaced Persons, (IDPs), who deserted their villages in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State as a result of bandits’ attacks, have been returned to their communities.

Recall that Daily Trust had reported that the IDPs, who were camping in the Jibia Central Primary school, were in dire need, having abandoned their farmlands and their belongings, but could not return due to the fear of bandits’ attacks.

The affected persons majority of whom were women and children, called on authorities concerned, to come to their aid as they could not afford to remain in the camp.

In a swift reaction to the plea, the Katsina State Government decided to return them with adequate security arrangement, so that they could live in peace and return to their farming activities as explained by the Chairman, Jibia People’s Forum, Malam Gide Dahiru.

“It is true that people from about four villages moved to Jibia to escape attacks by bandits and the government’s attention was drawn to that scenario.

“The people were taken care of in terms of food and other essential needs by the Katsina State Government and Jibia Local Government, with support from the member representing Jibia at the State Assembly, Hon. Mustapha Yusuf.

“But on Monday, these people, who are about 3000 in number were moved back to their settlements after putting in place adequate security arrangement in which the security agents will remain with them for sometimes,” he said.

He said the arrangement was satisfactory in that there was an agreement between the state government and the Brigade Commander that military men who would escort them would remain with them for a while to ensure the return of normalcy to the area.
