Smooth recruitment for security agencies

One of the major problems we have always faced with security agencies has to do with their recruitment process.

For more than two decades now, recruitment into these agencies is hijacked.

Merit is no longer followed.

Every highly placed person in the country wants his child or relative to get recruited into major security agencies.

You would always find children or relatives of elites get recruited as Officers.

The resultant effect is that the hardworking ones who have the zeal to serve this nation aren’t taken.

The lazy ones outshine the hardworking and committed ones during such recruitment process.

Those with the zeal to serve the nation aren’t considered.

This needs to be addressed.

Our security agencies from the 90’s below had the finest and committed personnel.

They went to war zones in Liberia, Sierra Leone and conquered enemies of those nations.

Africa and the world relied on those dedicated personnel to bring succour to most troubled countries.

Even the rebels were scared of Nigeria peacekeeping contingent.

We do not have the same now and the aforementioned is part of the problem we face.

Out of 100%, I can confidently say only less than 10% get on merit.

It’s sad to note that those assigned to conduct recruitment exercise sometimes ask candidates they are screening questions such as “who is standing for you”.

We need to allow a smooth recruitment process, especially in security agencies so we would get the best hands who have the zeal to serve our country.
