Youths in Kpakungun area of Minna, Niger State capital on Monday morning blocked the major road plied by motorists in protest against the epileptic power supply in the state.
The youths, who stormed the Kpakungun roundabout as early as 6am, prevented trailers, motorists, and trucks from proceeding to their various destinations.
The Kpakungun road is the only link road that leads to the southern part of the country and the busiest in the state.
Motorists, especially those traveling to the southern part of the country were left stranded as a result of the huge hold up that enveloped the stretch of the road.
The youths expressed frustration over the epileptic power supply, saying that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has been taking the people in the state for granted.
The power supply in Niger State has rapidly deteriorated as most parts of the state only have electricity for two to three hours daily, while some areas enjoy less hours of supply.
While the youths carried different placards with inscriptions expressing their frustrations, efforts of the state government to bring the situation under control proved unsuccessful as they refused to listen to the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, who arrived to address them, insisting that the State Governor should be the one to listen to them.
