The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Abia State has destroyed 9,110.252 kilograms of drugs it seized in the state.
Chairman of NDLEA, Muhammad Mustapha Abdullah, who destroyed the substances in Umuahia, said the drugs destroyed include 6,574.116 kilograms of cannabis, 10.81kg of heroin, 8.932 kg of cocaine and 2,516.394 kg of psychotropic substances.

He said the agency was elated that such quantity of drugs were intercepted and not allowed into circulation to cause havoc in the society.
He maintained that, drugs just like poison need not to be in large volumes before doing “incalculable damage”, adding that the society must do everything to ensure that the entrepreneurial heritage of Abia people don’t come under the threat of drugs abuse and illicit trafficking of drugs.
Also speaking, the Abia State Commander of the agency, Mr Bamidele Akingbade, said the exhibits’ destruction exercise by officers and men of the command provides the state the opportunity to prove to the public the extent of successes recorded in its counter narcotics operation in the state.
