The Chairman said the creation of the brigade and additional telephone numbers became pertinent for effective operations in the 18 Local Government Areas of the state where illegal taxation had continuously been practiced preventing commercial activities from thriving.
He said the agency’s Anti-Tax Brigade would work with the security agencies in the state to ensure that illegal taxation was effectively checked.
“We have liaised with the Acting Chief Judge of the State, Justice Maurice Eneji, and have established special mobile courts. Anyone caught breaking the Anti-Tax law would be prosecuted in the mobile courts.
“The purpose of this workshop is to chart a way forward in the fight against the so many illegal taxation in the state which is making the people and the governor angry,’’ he said.
In her remark, the Commissioner for Commerce, Mrs Rosemary Archibong, said the challenge before the agency was monumental, little wonder the governor appointed a transparent person with international exposure to man the agency.
Archibong advised the agency to be strong as it would be battling against people who did not know the benefit of having an effective anti-tax agency in the state. (NAN)
