Daily Trust recalls that the conflict which started over a land dispute in June has spiralled into an ethno-religious conflict leading to loss of hundreds of life and had displaced thousands of families into the Zonkwa IDP camp as well Mariri in Lere LGA and Ladduga in Kachia LGA.
While donating the materials through the Special Adviser to the state Accountant General, Bala Yakubu, the governor’s wife said she was saddened by the crisis in the area and urged all to live together in peace irrespective of religion and tribe.
She extended her sympathy to the displaced persons especially the women and children in the camp and apologized for not making it to the camp personally.
However, the camp coordinator, Reverend Gambo Waziri who accepted the materials expressed delight and appreciated the donations.
He stated that since the crisis, the camp has accommodated 3455 persons but now houses over 1000, adding that 54 pregnant women were brought to the camp with six successfully delivered while two children had died.
He lamented the condition faced in the camp and appealed for prayers for the crisis to come to an end stating that, “we have so many challenges in the camp but God is helping us to survive. Please, it will be nice if you take our message back that we need security to go back to our land.”
