Some communities in Sabongida ward in Gassol local government area of Taraba state have raised alarm over the rate of kidnapping in their localities.
The communities that came under attacks of kidnappers and armed bandits are Nanguru,Barno_Kurukuru, Sabongida, Sansani and Gwiwan kogi.
Spokesperson of the communities, Mallam Ibrahim Sabongida said in one week, 10 people were abducted by kidnappers in the area.
He said it was in the same location the proprietor of Winner comprehensive school Jalingo, Mr Danlami Shamaki was killed by armed bandits while a civil defense Corp officer was also abducted.
Mallam Ibrahim stated further that it was in the same area that three businessmen and two commercial motorcyclists were abducted.
He said residents in the area had abandoned farms located far away from their villages because of rampant cases of kidnapping.
Mallam Ibrahim disclosed that many wealthy people and large scale farmers had relocated to Jalingo because of threats to their lives by bandits and kidnappers.
“Sabongida, Nanguru, Sansani road from Sabongida and Barno_Kurukuru towns were attacked severally by bandits in recent past” he said
Mallam Ibrahim stated that they have reported the matter to security agents and appealed for deployment of more operatives in the area to curtail the activities of armed bandits
Contacted, the spokesperson of Taraba police command, DSP David Misal said the command received only one report of abduction of one person from the area.
He said it is not true that 10 people were abducted by kidnappers in one week in the area.
