Sultan declares today Hijrah New Year

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, led by its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has announced today as the 1st day of Muharam, 1442 AH New Year.

Deputy Secretary-General, NSCIA, Prof. Salisu Shehu, in a statement on Thursday, said there was no proven sighting of the crescent of Muharam, 1442 A.H on the 29th of Dhul-Hijjah, 1441 A.H, Wednesday.

“In line with the above, the President-General of NSCIA and Sultan of Sokoto has approved Friday, 21st August, 2019, as the 1st day of Muharam, 1442 AH.

“The council hereby enjoins the Nigerian Muslim Ummah to continue to promote peaceful coexistence and unity among all the citizens of the country,” Shehu said.

While wishing the Muslim Ummah Happy New Year, he urged them to rededicate themselves to the worship of Allah and intensify prayers for the quick eradication of the coronavirus pandemic.
