Covid-19: KDSG meets with District Heads on FORWARD campaign

The Ministry of Local Government has met with the 77 District Heads in Kaduna state as part of government’s efforts to take the fight against the spread of Covid-19 to the grassroots as part of its FORWARD campaign.

The Commissioner of Local Government, Malam Jafaru Sani who disclosed this to newsmen after a closed-door meeting, said that the District Heads were told to take the message to Village and Ward Heads in order to check the spread of the virus.

‘’The traditional rulers will further tell their people the ills of Coronavirus and how it can be prevented,’’ he added.

Malam Jafaru said that the Commissioner of Health, Dr Amina Mohammed Baloni, who was represented by a Director in the ministry, said that the kernel of the FORWARD campaign is for people to take responsibility in protecting themselves against the virus.

According to him, the campaign entails eating of immune-boosting foods and engaging in exercise, in addition to wearing face masks, washing of hands with soap and running water and maintaining social distancing as well as avoiding large crowds.

‘’The meeting told the traditional leaders to advise people who test positive, not to escape from isolation centres when they are taken for treatment for Covid-19. People should also allow their families to be tested,’’ he added.

‘’The traditional rulers expressed gratitude for the sensitisation meeting and the steps being taken to check both the spread of Coronavirus,’’ Jafaru added.
