Handball federation receives grant of 8,000 Swiss Francs from IHF

The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) on Wednesday said that it had received a grant of 8,000 Swiss Francs {3,332,202.88} from the International Handball Federation (IHF).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the information was contained in a letter signed by the IHF President, Hassan Moustafa.

The President of HFN, Sam Ocheho, who confirmed the receipt of the letter said that the grant was to cushion the negative effects of COVID-19 pandemic on handball development in Nigeria.

He said that the decision to release the grant to HFN was reached during a video conferencing of the IHF council and its members.

“The world handball governing body stated then that it would grant HFN financial support of 8,000 Swiss Francs to help aid the negative effect of the pandemic on handball activities in Nigeria.

“This was communicated to us during the joint meeting of the IHF Council with all IHF Member Federations, which was held by video conferencing on July 16.

“The IHF Executive Committee decided on June 9 to help reduce the negative impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic on the handball family.

“I am pleased to inform you that the IHF will grant to your federation financial support amounting to CHF 8,000 to join forces in reducing the negative impact of COVID-19 on your federation and handball activities in your country”, it said.

Ocheho, on behalf of the federation and the entire Nigeria Handball Family, expressed appreciation to the IHF for the grant adding that it release was timely.

The President promised that the money would be used for the exact purpose it was meant to serve.(NAN)
