The Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Oluwatoyin Akeredolu has turned down a request by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Bamidele Oleyelogun for the setting up of a seven man panel to probe the Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi over impeachable offences levelled against him.
Fourteen members of the House out of twenty-six members had on Monday signed the notice of impeachment against the deputy governor while nine disassociated themselves from the plot.
The Chief Judge in her reply dated 9th July,2020 said that the conditions required by the 1999 constitution for setting up of such a probe panel has not been met.
She said the constitution require two third majority of the members.
The Speaker had written a letter to the CJ to set up a panel of inquiry to investigate the deputy governor on allegation based on impeachable offences
In a letter personally signed by her, the CJ also said the matter of impeachment was already a subject of litigation (sub judice).
The Deputy Governor is facing impeachment since his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party over alleged maltreatment by his superior, Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu.
